      Hi,

I would like some suggestions for a hardware combo that can do the following:

      2.5gbps down 1.24mbps up NAT
      Firewall
      Decent 100mbps OpenVPN 256bit

      Not required but desired:
Some sort of http-https filtering would be nice.

Current setup, GPON 1gbps symetrical via ADTRAN Total Access 334
      specs: http://www.adtran.com/pub/Library/Data_Sheets/Default_Public/61287736G3-8%20TA334%20GPON%20SFU%20ONT.pdf

Bandwidth currently limited to 1 X gbe port on TA334, provider would activate a second gbe port on request.

I am considering asking for fiber split + second ONT or allowed to activate my own ONT using some sort of GPON OLT SFP + PCIe SFP adapter (if possible).

      I have looked at:
      DELL POWEREDGE R710 2x X5650 2.66GHZ SIX CORE CPU'S 72GB MEM 2x 3.5" 1TB

      HP Z6000 DUAL NODE ENCLOSURE 2x SL160z G6 4x L5640 SIX CORE 16GB MEM

      Got one of this:
Intel Quad Port Ethernet Server Adapter (I350T4).

Budget $500 pfsense box only. Flexible.

      Thank you.

So an Intel Xeon E3-1241v3, 8 GB ECC RAM and a Intel Quad Port card together with a SSD
would do the job for you.

I am considering asking for fiber split + second ONT or allowed to activate my own ONT using some sort of GPON OLT SFP + PCIe SFP adapter (if possible).

Go by a cheap SFP > RJ45 media adapter.

Budget $500 pfsense box only. Flexible.

        Supermicro Board for Xeon E3
        Xeon E3-1241v3
        8 GB ECC RAM
        128 GB SSD
        Supermicro case and PSU

or all assembled together as a Supermicro Superserver ready to go!
Would be my personally choice of this setup.
