XG-7100 1U with ZFS - BIOS vs UEFI?
-
I'm setting up a new XG-7100 1U with pfSense 2.4.5
I'm choosing to use ZFS as the root filesystem.
During install, it lets me pick whether I want to use BIOS or UEFI (default is BIOS).
Out of curiosity - what are the pros/cons of each one, on hardware like the Netgate XG-7100?
I picked BIOS for the first install, and it does work, however, I'm curious what I would gain if I chose UEFI?

There is little difference one the OS has been booted. It used to affect how the installer operated to some extent but you can now select the install type for either.
The XG-7100 uses Coreboot with SeaBIOS to boot legacy install. It expects the install type to be legacy (BIOS).

Thanks Steve for the helpful info!
Just to clarify - the XG-7100 1U will not work with UEFI, right? As in, it must be set to BIOS to work?
(I assume this isn't something you can just change in the BIOS configuration on the box - curious how to even sure get to that).

I have never tried to be honest since our image installs UFS with BIOS/MBR by default.
Coreboot can certainly boot UEFI though so it may be possible with some work:
