New interface issue
-
Hi,
I am running into a trouble adding a new interface on my pfsense:
- I have a pfsense running on ESXi.
- 1x WAN Interface
- 3x LAN interfaces
- Multiple VPN interfaces
Previously I added new interfaces without any issues but this time I getting an strange error and I am not able to resolve it.
On the process to add a new interface I shutdown PFSense, add a new interface on ESXi and Power on PFSense. After adding a new interface pfsense is re-mapping the mac/interface in the wrong way.
Example:
Before new interface (match ESXi information):
Interfaces:
vmx0 - WAN - MAC 0001
vmx1 LAN01 - MAC 0002
vmx2 LAN02 - MAC 0003
vmx3 LAN03 - MAC 0004After I added a new interface it become:
vmx0 WAN - MAC 0001
vmx1 LAN01 - MAC 005
vmx2 LAN02 - MAC 002
vmx 3LAN03 - MAC 003
vmx4 New Interface - MAC 004The MAC Addresses on ESXi are manually assigned.
Versions:
PFSense:
2.4.5-RELEASE (amd64)
ESXi version:
6.7.0 / 15160138Any help is much appreciated.
Kind Regards,

This is a known issue with ESXi. When you add more than 4 NICs it changes the order they are presented to the VM on the PCI bus. Hence pfSense/FreeBSD evaluates them differently at boot.
You will likely just need to re-assign them in the correct order for the new layout.

Hi Steve,
Thank you, it worked with reassigning interfaces and a reboot after.
Just reassigning interfaces made pfsense start assigning VPN IP on the LAN :( this is what I tried before. After the reboot it made pfsense get back to normal.Thank you and have a great Easter.
