Downloading Older PFSense Versions
-
I am planning to upgrade my 2 PFSense devices from version 2.3.4 to 2.4.1. The 2 Devices are running CARP for High Availability function. In the event I lose all access to one of them while I am upgrading, is there a way for me to re-downlodn the 2.3.4 iso in case I need to re-image the device?

I believe if you open a ticket at https://go.netgate.com/ they can get you an older version if you need it.

Best practice, I always archive each build of pfSense for possible roll back situations. Quite frankly I've never had to do that. Instead my first response to upgrade issues is to simply re-image the device with the new build and restore my config. This has worked every single time. Before I initiate an upgrade I create the installation media so I can quickly recover.

@moelassus I meant to point that out, we try to keep old versions also. However builds for Netgate hardware aren't usually downloadable without a ticket.

from version 2.3.4 to 2.4.1
Curious why 2.4.1 not 2.4.4?
Also remember packages aren't generally installable after a new pfSense version has been released, since they are for the newer version. However, 2.4.4 is available as a choice (previous stable version) in System/Update/Update Settings. -
@teamits I only said 2.4.1 because that was the version that my device advised that it wanted to upgrade to.

If you're coming from 2.3.X you should select the 2.4.4 update branch to reach 2.4.4p3 first. Then go from there to 2.4.5. It will likely fail a direct upgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.4.5.
However I would recommend installing 2.4.5 clean and restoring your config into it. The jump from 2.3.4 is large.Steve
