@VincentEmmanuel said in Can pfsense handle 10gb WAN?:

Hi guys, I did some digging and have some mixed views on this topic.

I'm getting a 10gb Internet sfp hand-off so my question is whether pfsense can handle 10gb WAN?

      Is your internet line 10gbit??

pfSense can surely be able to handle 10gb, the question is on which hardware you intend to run it

@Cool_Corona Bare metal. Its not provisioned yet so I dunno about the pps but my main concern is whether pfsense is able to handle the 10gb wan side.

It is. It has a lot to do with hardware. Minimum 16 cores, high Mhz and 16GB ram.

I run it on a 32 core system, 32GB ram and SSD but only 2ghz clock speed. I can push around 1,8MM PPS no packet loss and under 1ms latency.

Wow. The only customer I've ever seen get 10 Gb was a major bank. Even carriers and ISPs max out at 100 Gb.

                        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

I use to run 32 cores.... only 8 now with the current release. (2.4.5).

32 cores was on 2.4.4p3 and it ran no issues. Lots of problems with the patest release and multiple cores...

I didn't say gigabyte. I said Gb, which means gigabit. GB = gigabyte.
