Auto config backup fails often
-
Hi all.
I am currently using autoconfigbackup to make backup of my devices. On some of them I often experience issues when it tries to upload my config file.
This is the following error we get.
/usr/local/sbin/execacb.php: An error occurred while uploading your pfSense configuration to https://acb.netgate.com/save (<html>^M <head><title>500 Internal Server Error</title></head>^M <body>^M <center><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></center>^M <hr><center>nginx/1.16.0</center>^M </body>^M </html>^M ) - <html>^M <head><title>500 Internal Server Error</title></head>^M <body>^M <center><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></center>^M <hr><center>nginx/1.16.0</center>^M </body>^M </html>^MDoes anyone know how I should debug this further or if it is a known issue?
Pfsense version:

I haven't heard of that happening to anyone else, but a 500 server error would be coming from the server end. So unless there is something specific about the request your side is sending, that is probably an error on our side.
Do you have a specific timestamp which corresponds to a few examples of the 500 error? That would help the IT crew narrow down what might have happened at the time.

Often but not all the time? Sometimes it works? I would think if it was a special character or something in the config file causing a problem it would happen all the time.
-
Special character in the config wouldn't matter since it's encrypted before it's sent to the server. Maybe something in the description but that wouldn't vary.

Hi jimp,
I don't have the 500 server error, but my backup isn't uploading. I can give you my device-ID an timestamps if it helps? :-)

@jimp
Hi Jimp
Thank you for your response.
We have experienced it the following times in the latest week:
May 2 00:00:02
May 3 00:00:02
If you want I can send the device key in a PM.
We also experienced it
April 18 00:00:02
April 19 00:00:02
April 20 00:00:02 -
Do you have ACB set to backup on a schedule? Or is something else on your system triggering a save and backup at midnight?
If it's on a schedule, can you try moving that to another time?

Yes we are running ACB on a schedule. I will try to change it to run at noon instead and report back in a few days :)

This happens on occasion to my system as well (500 error when backup is initiated), though it doesn't seem to be often.
2.4.4-RELEASE-p3 (amd64)
built on Thu May 16 06:01:19 EDT 2019
FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p10Running on a Netgate SG-2440
Services include pfBlockerNG (can update every hour) and Snort (updates every 6 hours).
ACB is set to update on configuration changes- meaning Snort and pfBlockerNG can initiate backups.Failure times (Mountain time):
2020-04-13 16:00
2020-04-14 16:00
2020-04-18 22:00
2020-05-13 16:00ACB is set to upload on every configuration change, not a schedule. This recent one today seemed to be triggered by pfBlockerNG:
May 13 16:00:10 /usr/local/www/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.php: Beginning configuration backup to .https://acb.netgate.com/saveLog error:
May 13 16:00:10 /usr/local/www/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.php: An error occurred while uploading your pfSense configuration to https://acb.netgate.com/save (<html>^M <head><title>500 Internal Server Error</title></head>^M <body>^M <center><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></center>^M <hr><center>nginx/1.16.0</center>^M </body>^M </html>^M ) - <html>^M <head><title>500 Internal Server Error</title></head>^M <body>^M <center><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></center>^M <hr><center>nginx/1.16.0</center>^M </body>^M </html>^M
What's a bit odd too is that there are some system logs that show backup successes, but the backups don't appear in the ACB tab:
May 13 12:05:45 /usr/local/pkg/snort/snort_check_for_rule_updates.php: End of configuration backup to https://acb.netgate.com/save (success). The previous two backups I have listed are for:
Wed, 13 May 2020 15:32:57 -0600
Wed, 06 May 2020 10:10:01 -0600The successful upload at 12:05 is not listed in my backup list.
-
I finally got to make the change and have been monitoring the last week with great success. We haven't had one error in the last 10 days which leads me to believe that changing the time has fixed the issue we were experiencing.
Before we had it set to 00:00 CEST now it's set to 12.00 CEST.
