I recently underwent an upgrade of many of my core hardware elements for my home network and opted to go with the SuperMicro 5019A-FTN4 unit as it seemed like a decent upgrade to the highly-recommended 5018A for pfSense.

Out of the box a clean install worked well and restoring my config was painless, except for the errors it started throwing:

"There were error(s) loading the rules: pfctl: ix2: driver does not support altq"

Extensive research revealed that the Quad Gigabit Ethernet LAN via Intel C3000 SoC that accompanies the Intel Atom C3758 doesn't yet support altq for traffic shaping using the Intel(R) PRO/10GbE PCI-Express Network Driver Version 3.2.12-k on 2.4.5 / FreeBSD 11.3.

Just curious before I return this nice SuperMicro unit if there is any plans to support ALTQ for the C3000 SoC NICs in the near future? Traffic shaping is essential for me so if not I'll return this unit and get something else.

      Thanks

@maxtoid it has been mentioned several times on the forum, but ALTQ on the ix drivers were disabled because of stability issues some years ago.
If you want to do traffic shaping with that NIC then you can use limiters, otherwise you could use a NIC that uses the IGB or EM drivers which should still work with ALTQ.
You seem to have some great hardware why not just put a dual/quad port Intel i350/i340 NIC in it?

There are no plans to add altq to ixgbe as far as I know.

One workaround for that us to use VLANs on the ix NICs, vlan interfaces do support altq.

I know, old thread, but it the goal is close.

ALTQ ist fixed in 2.5 snapshot, right? :)
            look here

            Possible to compile for 2.4.5-p1?

            DG FTTH 400/200
            Supermicro A2SDi-4C-HLN4F with pfSense 2.7.2

It's unlikely since the drivers in FreeBSD 12 (and hence pfSense 2.5) are very different, iflib based.
