Configure Pfsense as a router on a stick
-
Hi there,
I'm trying to setup psense as a router on stick. I would like to have 5 vlans (vlan 10, 20, 30,40,and 50) configured on my Cisco switch and have their vlan interfaces (sub-interfaces to LAN nic) configured in pfsense.
Here are my questions:1. Is it an issue to have pfsense LAN IP assigned to the same LAN Network card that will be use to created sub-interfaces for VLANs ?
Example:
Lan NIC =em1
pfsense Lan IP assigned on em1 : 10.10.10.2
Interface Vlan 10 (em1 as the parent) : 10.10.10.1
Interface Vlan 20 (em1 as the parent): 10.10.20.1
Interface Vlan 30 (em1 as the parent): 10.10.30.1
Interface Vlan 40 (em1 as the parent): 10.10.40.1
Interface Vlan 50 (em1 as the parent): 10.10.50.12. Is it a problem to have the LAN IP (10.10.10.2) sharing the same subnet with a vlan interface (in this case vlan 10 : 10.10.10.1)
Thank you bunches for taking the time read my post.

I figured it out. pfsense won't let you use your original LAN IP address in addition to the VLAN interface ip.
So I went "interface -> LAN". Under "IPv4 Configuration Type" i select "none". But the remaining VLANs interfaces kept their respective ips.
I gave it a reboot and "voila" problem solved.
