DHCP server crashed after a restart. Culprit was an IP alias
-
I just finished a troubleshooting session where a Pfsense installation had no working DHCP.
There was a power surge after which most came back, beside several clients.
I noticed it wasn't running the DHCP-server.
I turned off all DHCP-servers and then turned them on one by one.If I enabled the DHCP-server for the LAN-network, the DHCP-server would crash.
I didn't see anything odd until I noticed I turned an IP-Alias on that interface.
I sometimes use it to see if some fixed IP device is on some other network because it uses its factory default IP.
This was turned on for weeks and never turned off.Because it was the only thing strange to that specific interface I removed the IP alias and then tried it again.
My DHCP-server was working again. What is strange is that I use this more often. Not much, but in all these years I should have noticed it before.
Is it expected behaviour or is it a bug?2.4.5-RELEASE (amd64)
