      Hi Guys,

Just got a pair of the above for an HA setup. Love them to bit's BTW.

My only concern is the reliability of the hardware. I've seen a number of posts elsewhere that suggests these can fail after about 14 months. PSU seems to be the main cause. Mine will be going into a datacenter with a controlled environment which should help.

Anyone have any experience with issues long term, if so, how did you mitigate them?

      regards

Haven't used that model, but we haven't had power supply issues with any others we've sold over the years. If uptime is a concern, consider two with high availability set up? https://www.netgate.com/solutions/pfsense/xg-7100-1u-dual.html (comes with extra 4 port NICs since most of the ports on the base unit are switched).

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@teamits That's what the OP already ordered, an HA pair.

What I would recommend, and since I haven't put my hands on a physical box of the XG-7100 yet so I don't know their reliability, is to spec out and price the power supplies, separately. You might be able to get one of the mods, or product guys here, to get you the make and model of the PSU's. Then order extras now, or find a supplier that can get you some in the future.

If I were to bet, Netgate most likely uses high quality components in their branded boxes. You might NEVER run into a power supply failing. But, one never knows...

          Hope that helps.

          Jeff

d'oh! Read right past that first sentence.
