IPv6 Gateway Address Drops off
-
IPv6 Works perfect on pfSense. Can get online even with clients. However, I have one problem...
My clients all have IPv6 DHCP enabled. Eventually (I'm not exactly sure how long it takes), but my IPv6 Gateway disappears in ipconfig. My clients all get an IPv6 fe80:: address for the gateway.
To get my gateway back on my clients, I have tried ipconfig /release6 and ipconfig /renew6 with no success. Still no gateway.
I found out I actually have to either reboot pfsense, or I can disable "Router Advertisements" in pfSense and then re-enable it and then my clients will get the gateway again.
I have a few questions on this..
- Is this a known issue somewehere?
- Is there a workaround for this aside from setting a Static IPv6 gateway on all my devices.
- On a side question, and I think it I already know the answer to this.. But, I have a static IP address on my LAN side in pfSense. Is there anyway to get the clients to "use" this as my IPv6 Gateway instead of the fe80 address? I know it's acceptable to have the fe80 address, but just wondering if there is a way to use my static IP for my gateway instead.

Do a capture packet on DHCPv6 and one of the client addresses to see what's happening.
Also, check the lease time. The client should not lose the address before the lease expires.
