Dual Port Low profile NIC
-
Hello All,
First post here. I have used pfSense in the past on a spare tower using full height case so I had many left over parts to make my own hardware box. Sense then I have gotten rid of that case and have not used pfsense for sometime now. My question now is that im building another pfsense box from and old dell desktop PC and uses low profile slots. I could source a riser for a normal size card but do not want to add anything extra. So im looking towards the community on anyone that has success using a Dell Optiplex 780 DT for pfsense but recommendations on a low profile nic, preferably dual port or more.

I'll plug the Intel i340-T4. Also found in OEM versions from Dell, HP, IBM and others for about $25. Here's a good link to find the OEM equivalents of that chipset and several others. Many on EBay include both height brackets.

Hello ,
Thank you for the reply. Alot of the info on there is like another language to me. But from what im gathering. literally all that is being posted on there are PCI x4. My dell that I want to add has only the follow available slots.
Dell Optiplex 780 DT
PCI Slots x 2
PCIe x16 slots - 1 -
You can use a PCIe-x4 card in a PCIe-x16 slot.

And I use my PCIe 2.0 card in a 1.1 slot. Works fine.
