SG-5100 different interface nics
-
Hello, I am researching hardware and learning. Can you please help me understand why there are different NICs on the SG-5100. All independent interfaces, and I understand maybe one group is part of the SOC and the other two are add on. But since they are all the same speed why would I choose to use one interface over another? Is there performance choices picking to use the i210 vs the other available NICs on board.
Thank you.

In the big picture doesn't really matter what interfaces you use for what.. While the 4 ports are part of the soc.. Overall shouldn't really matter which ports you use.

If you're using the interfaces directly (without VLANs) the ix NICs cannot currently use AltQ traffic shaping. That might be a deciding factor.
Performance wise there is very little to choose between them. Both support 4 queues.Steve

Thank you both. My SG-5100 just arrived today, so tonight's going to be fun, replacing the SG-1100.
