Since last reboot my PfSense is making a different sound when it starts.
It's like the classic sound, but at the end it is a long beep (+/- 5 secs).
Anyone knows what that means? I don't find anything on the net about it.
      I didn't changed the hardware.

I have seen (heard) that before if the CPU is very busy at that point and the delay becomes much longer than it would otherwise be.

Are you really running 2.3.2 there? If so the first thing you should do here is upgrade.

@stephenw10 , Hi Steve, Thanks for you reply. No I am not running 2.3.2 anymore :-). For the moment I have version 2.4.5. But I don't find a way to change that kind of signature on the forum. If you know can you share pls?

So ok what you are saying about the long beep is that my pfsense is doing some hard work during or directly after boot process. I will check my config and consult my logs. This will maybe give me an answer. I am also upgrading my bios along the way.

Yes, something like that. I have never seen it cause an issue apart from the odd start up tune.

I updated your signature. It should just be an option in your account though.

            Steve

              hello,
you're using a pcEngines APU board(!?), don't worry no matter what sound you hear
it's just a piezo beeper on the MOBO, not the sound of pfSense

it has nothing to do with anything that, might be a problem

Cats bury it so they can't see it!
(You know what I mean if you have a cat)

                Update on this:
I upgraded the bios to the latest stable version and I also updated PfSense to his latest version (2.4.5-RELEASE-p1) and everything seems to be normal again. Normal startup sound.

                    @czar666

We use many pcEngines MOBOs and almost all have different sounds at shutdown and start-up.

According to our observations, the sound you hear usually depends on the amount of stopping and starting processes and resource requirements.

This small unit is not a power machine and it also depends on processes how long it takes for sound exactly what state you are restarting from.

                    The latest BIOS 4.12.0.1:
                    https://pcengines.github.io/#mr-35

It’s good to hear that you’ve achieved a reassuring result.

                    PS:
4.11.0.6 not recommended "stepping stone" in the BIOS life, for example we did not update to this release.
                    (4.11.0.4 similarly, can cause problems)

Cats bury it so they can't see it!
