Jetway NF9D-2550 Installation Problems
-
I am trying to install the latest pfSense release on the Jetway NF9D-2550 appliance, but the installer is stopping while booting. In verbose mode it is showing me the following last line on screen:
"PCIe: Memory Mapped configuration base @ 0xe0000000"
I don't see any apparent error message above this output, but the installer simply stops at that point.
Any suggestions what I can try? Thank you!

Weird. When I am running it again today, it fails on a different message:
acpi0: <_> on motherboard
I am guessing that's a ACPI related issue. However, it seems that I can only change the state of ACPI from S1 to S3 in the BIOS. Can't seem to find an "OFF" setting.
Is anybody else using this hardware on the latest version of pfSense? I could only find people using it on older versions on the forum.
Maybe I can also turn off ACPI during installation boot somehow?
Any help is appreciated!

Ok. I have made some progress. I found that I can complete the installation successfully in Safe Mode.
However, when I reboot the system, it now fails with "Error 1962: No operating system found.Press any key to repeat boot sequence."
I have already tried to change the boot order in the BIOS, but that didn't fix the problem.
Any ideas?

Since I ran out of ideas, I figured I should try to install a similar solution. So, I tried OpnSense. As expected, I got the same ACPI related error message when running the installer directly. However, when I ran the installation in "Save Mode" it installed and, unlike pfSense, also booted afterwards.
So, I am guessing that there is some kind of problem with creating the boot block in pfSense.
Are there any FreeBSD experts here that would know more about the differences of the pfSense vs OpnSense installer?
I am also wondering if it would make sense to try an older version of pfSense? Maybe the problem has been introduced with the most recent release? I am wondering on that because it seems that there are folks using the same hardware, but the forum posts are older and so they likely used an older version.
My goal here is to find a suitable firewall for our family home. Thank you for any feedback!

Did you update the BIOS to the latest 2012 version? Might also be related to:

Thank you for getting back to me!
Yes, I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest 2012 version. Looking at the shared forum post, it is possible that I am experiencing the same boot problem.
I have made one more "discovery". I figured, I might as well try the 2.5 version.
Unfortunately, the latest version doesn't even install in safe mode. It basically fails with an EFI framebuffer message attempting to open a display at 800x600. Before that message, I also see the following two error messages, but those might be normal.
can't find '/etc/hostid'
can't find '/boot/entropy'I am guessing that that the motherboard doesn't properly support EFI framebuffer. Is there a way to force VESA using the installer?

As a last resort, I have tried to install pfSense 2.4 using ZFS as the file system and it finally installed.
However, I am seeing some error message after completing the boot. Here is what I am getting:
CAM status: Uncorrectable parity/CRC error
Retrying command
WRITE_FPDMA_QUEUED. ...I have just validated the disk a few days ago and don't believe that there is a physical problem with the disk. So, I am assuming that it is once again some kind of compatibility issue. Will do some research on it, but at least I can now take a look at the Web UI.
Finally some progress!
