Help me choose which hardware
-
Hello,
I'm currently using an old desktop computer and I'm willing to change to a more energy efficient and powerful one (home use).
I've seen these two ones, with 2GB RAM (I don't think 4 GB is required) :

They seems quite nice, with a c1037u CPU, the first one with 2 Intel LAN, the latter with 6 RTL8111DL LAN.
Are these reliable? Will pfsense work fine with RTL nic?
I only need 3 LAN, so having seen the price difference, I was thinking of buying the cheaper one and adding the 3rd LAN using USB adapter (I do not need high performance on the third LAN), but will USB LAN work fine? I tried testing with an old notebook using such an USB LAN and reliability seems so-so on reboot, but the notebook was quite buggy. For storage, I wanted to go for a small 32G SSD, but I fear the squid proxy can wear out the SSD to quicky (home use).
Thanks for all your advices !

I'm also seen only main boards, might be a good solution.
I've seen some boards with Atom D525. Isn't that a bit slow for running snort? -
Jetway ready to go pfSense box would be all you need and future proof on top.

Thanks BlueKobold.
It looks like a nice hardware, but a bit over my budget.
