@kiokoman Strange because the first time I turned it off, that led went out.

I do not expect it to go off when it is halted.
It would be nice if it did since that would indicate it's safe to unplug but doing that proved impractical unfortunately.

@stephenw10 OK no problem, but you should take better care, much better the user manual. Thanks!

Which part exactly? As far as I know it does not say that the Black Diamond should change at halt.

Or do you just mean it should confirm that?

@stephenw10 If with sg1100 off the black diamond is off, and when SG works it is on steady, I expect that when I turn off sg1100 the black diamond is also off. If it doesn't work like this, it would be easy to write it down.
I am a beginner and maybe my words don't make sense for sysadmin.

Ok, I understand. I'll try to have that clarified. Thanks

I also had this question, and joined the forum so I could ask it. Fortunately I found this in the search results first. :) The behavior of this light is very non-intuitive, even to this network admin who has been running pfSense on our own hardware at work. I thought the official hardware would be even easier to operate than our homemade hardware, but instead I am finding the opposite. It seems the only way I can be sure that the box is properly halted is by connecting the USB cable to my laptop, and watching the messages with Minicom. I've now learned through experience that the shutdown happens very shortly after the web GUI stops responding, so I feel confident in unplugging the power cord.

Do the LED lights behave better in higher-end Netgate models (SG-3100, 5100, 7100, etc.)?

The problem is due to the way the ARM systems work there is no standby mode from which to drive a power LED. So that is also true of the SG-3100.
The SG-5100 and XG-7100 are x86 devices so have a conventional power LED that indicates when the box finally shuts down at the end of the halt sequence.
We could change the status of the black-diamond LED when the SG-1100 is shutdown but we could only do that as part of the shutdown sequence so it would go out before the device has actually halted. That would be potentially more confusing and more likely to cause problems with users pulling the power too early.

I have one SG-5100 on my desk at the moment (going in production tomorrow) so here we go:

                          Power up:

                          Booting pfSense:

pfSense ready to push some packets:

After Shutdown via WebGUI (power still connected):
