SG-2440 USB ports

Are these usb ports on units like the SG-2440 usable for sharing devices on the network. For example a printer, or what I'm looking at currently for an APC UPS cord as the SG-2440 is closer to the battery backup than my computer. Using mostly with Macs, although there are some PCs on the network.

It depends on the device. It wouldn't work (or be advisable) to use for Printers or for sharing storage, for example, but for a UPS which the firewall is also plugged into would be fine.
There are two packages for UPS devices, apcupsd and nut, and IIRC both of them offer means to allow other network devices to poll the status remotely.

The package info was helpful. For the APC UPS to work with the firewall and a computer plugged into the network, I installed apcupsd on pfsense. I enabled the Net Server option. The UPS is plugged into a usb port on the firewall.
Is there something else that needs installed for my Mac to see it on the network?

@angeloweb To answer part of my own question, I downloaded the Mac package, installed it, and corrected the ip address in preferences to direct towards the firewall. The mac apcupsd icon now reports on the status of the battery backup.
As far as setting any configuration as to how the devices handle a power failure, I need to figure that part out, so would welcome guidance there.

Typically, the UPS software would / should tell you the maximum autonomy before battery depletion. Cut that time in half, and round it to to a lower minute value time. Have your systems shut down - power down - at that X minutes.
remember that batteries do loose their charge (== time before depletion) over several month. Change batteries after 2 to 3 years max.
