      Hi,

I am new to pfsense , I have configured pfsense and it is working quite good, recently I am facing an issue that my users got disconnected from internet with yellow exclamation mark, so they need to disconnect and connect again to access internet, can you help me please to fix this issue, recently i assign static IPs to my Wi-Wi APs for the workaround, can you help me to fix it .

        got disconnected from internet

        Hi,

        are these windows machines?
just no internet or no network?

unfortunately the windows new "2004" update has been corrupted and the internet connection test www.msftncsi.com is available via https (old http), but the certificate is messed up, so the network icon often gives false information...

@DaddyGo yes you are right, after assigning static IPs to my AP, now all is ok, some of the systems giving the same you mentioned . Thank You Issue Fixed.

Huh? What would the management IPs of AP have to do with anything? The time the IP of the AP would come into play is you manage it.

I take it your actually double natting with some wifi routers and they are not AP.. This is the only time their IPs would matter.

unfortunately the windows new "2004" update has been corrupted

What would that have to do with MS issue with there cert on some website, no matter what its used for. Been running update 2004 for a while, and have not run into this issue of no internet being reported.

Why would the test for http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt ever be done over https to be honest? Do you happen to have a list to bug report on this.. Can't seem to find anything as of yet.

              I really don't know, but that's the case...😉 (https!!!)

personally I don't use the connect test (msftncsi.), we created our own page for this...

therefore, it would be worth reading through:
              https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-investigating-windows-10-2004-no-internet-bug-how-to-fix/

in addition, we disabled a lot of MS telemetry in DNSBL, so ...
(own connecttest page is required, because the users are not happy about the icon show no internet)

Still not seeing in there where test is being done over https.. Make no sense to use https for such a test

I've been looking for the MS Technet description, what I read a few days ago, but can't find (https)

                  may have already been withdrawn

                  I didn't understand https either...just like you..

I think because everyone (who) has disabled this MS telemetry because an IIS has registered the IP address of the PINGs

since, then they have tried to make cert dependent...the page

Such a test via https would be horrible for any sort of captive portal, and its a simple can I get to the internet test the added overhead for the client and them serving just make zero point for https..

Maybe some user running some stupid https everything addon in their browser found that the cert doesn't match the fqdn.. But I highly doubt it has anything to do with anything.

Just like the OPs comment to IPs being changed on the AP.. .Those have zero to do with anything with connectivity for the client.. Unless they are not actually AP has them setup in a wifi router mode where they are natting.. In that case yeah the client would need to be able to get to the gateway, etc.

(it really has nothing to do with the icon problem)

it is conceivable that this is a Technet article, something of a guess...

I totally agree with what you described
