Pings but nothing more
-
Hi everyone.
I have an SG-1100 Netgate running the latest version of pfSense. Only had it a few months and has been an awesome little device. Last night my internet suddenly died. After troubleshooting i've found it's the Netgate. Can ping the device but that's it. It would not dish out DNS or DHCP. Moved back over to my wireless router and no issues. Still can't get into the pfSense box, but not sure how to troubleshoot further.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Hello!
Investigate using the console:

Thanks for the reply. I tried the console, but i can't get the shell up.
If i type
"sudo screen -U COM4 115200"
i get back
"-sh: sudo: not found" -
Hello!
You might need to adjust the console directions for linux clients based on your distro and the packages it has installed. Using a windows client might be easier if you have one available, or post what linux client flavor you are using.

I'm running Windows and using Putty to connect. When i connect it's nothing but black. Typing the command produces the error. I tried slowing down the speed as a test, but that gives me giberish when i type. As far as the pfSense device itself, it's a standard SG-1100 with only a couple of packages installed.

Just noticed the Black Diamond LED is blinking fast indicating "Boot in Progress". I think i'm going to have to wipe and reload. =(

Hello!
After you connect with the windows client, are you seeing any sort of prompt?
Connecting via the console would normally bring you to the menu seen in the docs.
You might try restarting the device while the console is connected and check the output.John

Bingo! I reset it while connected and started getting console output of the boot sequence. It was getting stuck on "Starting DNS Resolver". Quick google lead me to a Reddit post below.
Basically delete this "/var/unbound/pfb_dnsbl.conf", recreate the file, and restart.
Back in business!
You help was very much appreciated John!
