Resetting package settings?
-
Does anyone know any way you can reset the settings on a single package (Squid Proxy specifically)?
I'd like to use a tutorial that I found on how to turn it into a transparent proxy, but I want it to be set at the defaults before attempting it.
Thank all!

I found on how to turn it into a transparent proxy,
Hi,
You cut the your ax into a big tree. = Squid
(completely unnecessary in a beginner setup and SOHO environment)What do you think, anyway?
You want to continue the setup with a clean mind...
if you want completely new settings (from the beginning), follow this:clear the check mark from here:
then remove the Squid package with the trash can icon:
then reinstall from here (it starts with completely new and unconfigured settings):
btw:
with the transparent proxy, you will only hurt your head (bank / GOV sites, etc.), the solution is WPAD or PAC file.... (but it takes a long time and learning)because, the https MITM makes your life bitter....

Fair enough on the points with WPAD
However, I did try to reinstall it and it has held my previous settings from before. My end goal as well it to get it to a point where it can cache web resources from HTTP/HTTPS sites. So, if that can be done with little fuss. I'm happy.
Thank you

the http is fine, but I ask who uses it yet?
https causes headaches, since intermediate cert. is requires and wisely the more serious web will not allow this to be bypassed
almost all such questionable web sites (https bank, GOV, etc.) need to be configured manually
the caching that a proxy can provide is not worth it in an environment of only about 200 clients
if you have a larger network, a proxy may be considered....
@GregTheHun "I did try to reinstall it and it has held my previous settings from before. "
I don't understand this, if you used "untick checkbox" which I wrote above, the setting for the fresh install can't stay
btw:
just listen please my example of how a proxy can be detected (dslreports_com):+++edit:
I donโt want to dissuade you from Squid I just predict that this is a long and painful journeyI have too big a network and have lot of "unicellular" users, so proxy is the basic requirement...
Just so they don't hurt themselves, hahaha -
Aha! I did miss that tick box.
Thank you for that, but now that you mention it might not be worth it for so few of endpoints. I don't think I will be using squid then. I've also been looking at other people's opinions like Lawrence Systems on YouTube, they recommend not doing that as well.
Thank you for the help!

Lawrence Systems
Ok I understand
Anyway, this is the only usable source.... the Lawrence Systems with the rest just carefully........ with a lot of misleading video or thought process are pumped.otherwise watch the logic of the proxy cache ...:
- In today's world there are very fast CPUs, plus tons of RAM
- ISP speeds are rising into the skies
So caching the web pages, with a few endpoints is unnecessary ...
this can really only be good for hundreds of users when many people visit the same intranet or internet website, for internal enterprise resource planning (CRM, etc.) systems, if the web is based on access, and similar delicacies
