@coldfire7 Only thing to do is to make a rule having ICMP traffic avoid fq-codel. It's not a new issue and has been discussed more times than i can count in the mile long fq-codel thread.

But if you made the rule according to the guide you linked to, then create a new floating rule above it and set the following:
        Action : pass
        Quick : checked
        Interface : WAN
        Direction : Out
        Protocol : ICMP
        Gateway : WAN Gateway

Will it be fixed in future releases? I used CoDel/FQ_CODEL with OpenWRT never faced this issue before.

Problem doesn't exist if you make floating rule on your LAN/VLAN in. I wrote more here. It won't work for traffic originating from pfsense router, but it shouldn't be a problem. You have to make sure that floating rule is properly set so your local LAN traffic is not limited.

@coldfire7 The one who implemented fq-codel into FreeBSD also chimed in on various subjects in the fq-codel thread and should be aware of it. But since it is very low priority and that rule basically fixes it i highly doubt it. I am sure most are more interested in getting fq-cake implemented.
