In our venue we got a Supermicro 5018A-FTN4 running pfsense fine for some years.
4 ports were just fine up to now, but as times change we could need at least 2 more network ports for the increasing amount of light, sound & video hardware the is controlled via LAN.
Thats why I'm looking for a NIC to expand our pfsense and create dedicated networks for every subsection.

What I have learned fro this board so far: Definitely an intel NIC, to be future proof 4 ports.

The supermicro Board has a PCI-E 2.0 x8 slot, so I am trying to find a fitting NIC for both, the "old" mainboard and pfsense.
By now I am overwhelmed by the sheer amount of cards google offers me.

I really could need some help and recommendations.

Supermicro have their own card that will definitely work in that, AOC-SGP-I4. That's the card we use, you can buy it from us even. 😉

Are you looking for a new card only? If not there are some good guides out there for which OEM cards use which chipsets. I think the serve the home forum has one.

        Edit: Yup: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/list-of-nics-and-their-equivalent-oem-parts.20974/
