Any reason not to use the Openreach modem? As long as you don't have one of the early version Huawei ones they are pretty good.
I've also had pretty good experiences with the Draytek modems, they are similarly plug and play style. Just pass the PPPoE to pfSense. They have one coming out that's g.fast capable too.Steve

Hello Steve,
Thank you for your reply. I have no reason for not using Openreach modem and if you think using the openreach modem is the best option, then I'd totally accept that. The one I have is a 2015 ECI Telecom version, I had no issues with it. I'm mainly trying to understand what other alternatives I could get if this one dies and I can't find a replacement.
Draytek is a good brand however I was very unlucky with their products. I have 2x DrayTek Vigor 2862ac's at home and they disconnect 5-6 times a day and wireless suddenly disappears more often than that. Relatively cheap TP-Link modem is much more reliable than Draytek in my personal experience. So long story short, I would not buy another Draytek for this purpose.
Thank you!

Been using my ECI Telecom with Zen Internet since installing pfSense, 0 issues so far.

Thanks! What would you get if the ECI Telecom modem fails today and you can't find another one?
-
There are loads on eBay and they are way cheaper than the Draytek.

I was trying to get your opinion on the alternatives, I know they're available on ebay. Thanks anyway

@rootifera I don't think there are any other choices bar Draytek that you can purchase new.

There are some Zyxel devices that seem popular amongst those who know:
https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/board,5.0.htmlI haven't tried one. I did use the Draytek V120 for years with great success. The V130 is pretty much a connect and go replacement for the Openreach branded modems. I have used ECI and Huawei Openreach modems. Currently using an HG612 (v3A).

Thanks Steve, I'll have a look and see what does Zyxel have and I'll stick with openreach until I'll have to replace it.
Thanks!
