You could start with Packet Capture, to see if the discover, etc. are happening.

While I would agree with setting static wouldn't tell you what is wrong with dhcp.. It would help tell you if its actual just no connection to dhcp server or even network, or something in the dhcp process that is the problem.

First thing I would do is just look at the dhcpd log on pfsense - do you even see a discover? If not then no your never going to get and IP from dhcpd.

Do you see the discover, and then the offer sent? etc..

It's interesting. Ran a packet capture and I don't even see the MAC address listed. The DHCP server hands out IPs to everything else besides this one device. It is connecting wirelessly and the signal is very strong. I may have to investigate why the access point is not passing it through. I'm not sure this is pfSense anymore.

I did try assigning a static IP and that did not work either. Could not connect to the wireless. That may be the issue.

You didn't mention wireless before. Do you have it configured properly? If you can't connect, it certainly isn't a DHCP issue.

That's because you did not configure your FireTV to have pfSense as its DHCP and DNS server. You cannot just give it an IP address.

You don't configure DHCP servers. You enable DHCP or configure static address. There is no such thing as a setting for DHCP server.

And for that matter, neither de DHCP client (the TV) (well, ok, one could set up or override the default TV 'host name', probably)
Out of the box, it works as advertised.

The packet capture, or the DHCP, should show an DCHP DISCOVER or DHCP REQUEST coming from the tv. The MAC of the TV will be present in this DHCP log line. No trace of the MA C means : the request never reached pfSense.
If possible, cable (Ethernet) up your TV, bypassing your 'AP' setup.

Normally, you could.
A static IP set up means 4 entries :
The IP.
The correct LAN-mask.
The IP of the DNS == the IP of the pfSense LAN interface.
The IP of the gateway == == the IP of the pfSense LAN interface.

But maybe the TV is DHCP only as this would do in 99,999999 % of all cases.

Thanks everyone. The issue ended up being a misconfigured switch. pfSense has no issue here.

@JKnott and @Gertjan I was not thinking straight and really meant DNS only. Glad OP resolved his issue.

You don't even have to configure DNS, if you're using DHCP. That's one of the things that's typically handled.
