OPT1 Interface Up, Gateway Down
-
I just got our new fiber installed. They provided us with a Juniper switch for us to ethernet to. I've hooked up to our NG3100 as OPT1. WAN is my existing cable modem with DHCP.
In PFSense I've setup OPT1 with the static ip and gateway they provided me. I can see the OPT1 Interface shows as UP in Status -> Interfaces
However, in Status -> Gateways, the gateway for OPT1 shows as down.
The fiber has been activated, as I can get out if I hook up a test machine and set a static IP in the range I've been assigned. But I can't use the PFSense PING tool to resolve.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Presumably, you also cannot use any other, cause the gateway doesn't response on pings.
If that is the case, enter an alternative IP address which you get responses from in System > Routing > Gateway > Edit your GW. -
If I set the monitoring address of one of the static IPs then the gateway will show as UP.
But I can't use 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1, etc - and if I try to ping outside it will fail except against the assigned static IPs.
So how do I test if it's functioning properly if I can't get it to ping outside?

So the upstream connection isn't working or something is configured wrong.
If the interface IP, mask and gateway are set correctly you should be able to ping out.If it works from a test machine it must work on pfSense as well.

problem was on the provider side. I called back again and they were able to see the issue. Everything is functioning like we expect now.
