I just had some major problems with my internet provider - TWC/Spectrum and I ended up buying a new modem and some other hardware. I am trying to get things sorted out, but this morning I noticed that pfSense is showing a different WAN_DHCP IP than my Public IP and I thought before I had these problems it always matched.

Is this something to be concerned about? (if so - how do I fix?)

      Thx

Any chance that modem is in gateway mode? That would create the situation you describe.

        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

It's a standalone modem ( Motorola MB762) not a combination device, so at this point I don't believe there is a gateway mode.

I will add that I was looking at some older screenshots I took of my dashboard, when I was still using my old modem and it appears to be a similar situation to what I have now.

In the 'Gateways' widget on the dashboard, it lists for the WAN_DHCP an IP ending in 16.1. But I now noticed that in the 'Interface' widget, for the WAN interface, it indicates the proper Public IP which ends in 28.136 - so I guess what I am seeing is normal and just never noticed it before?

The gateway widget would list your "gateway" IP - yeah .1 is very common, or .254 another common one.. This is the isp router IP. But really it could be any IP in the network. Sometimes even on a different network - but that is normally very odd sort of setup.

But no the IP of your gateway is not going to be the IP on your wan, nor the IP listed when you go to something like whats my ip . com, etc.

Just like on devices on your network.. They list their IP on their interface, and the IP of pfsense - which is its gateway..
