      Hello everyone,

We currently looking at replacing an SG-8860 or more specifically getting an netgate rack mounted appliance for cold standby - though potentially the sg-8860 might become the standby.

We have quite a substantial firewall rule set, VLans and soon to have freeradius+openvpn for staff remote access. So I am hoping to just be able to export config from the SG-8860 into the replacement.

The likely replacement is a XG-7100 1U which has more interfaces than we currently have, while the other appliances have less.

How possible is it to just import the config into new netgate hardware and it'll just work?

It will not just work if you import it in most cases because of the switch config.

If you're not using all 6 NICs in the SG-8860 and you have an XG-7100 with the 4 port expansion card it is probably possible to import it directly.

If you are able to send us the config though just open a ticket with us and we can convert the config so you can just import it to the XG-7100.

You do not need a support subscription for that.

Thank you Stephen. That makes sense. We are using 5 of the 6 ports.

We've not purchased it yet but does the XG-7100 not come with 8 ports by default?

          Specs say

          8-port 1Gbps Marvell 88E6190 switch

It does, and you can use them with a modified config, it requires additional switch config.

The expansion card provides separate igb interfaces so if, for example, your existing config only had 4 interfaces from the 8860 assigned you would not require any config changes.

To be clear you do not need the expansion card.
