Pfsense 2.2.6 nanobsd incredibly long boot time on skylake

I was using an old qx6700 and 4 gigs of ram.
I moved to a g4400 skylake cpu, and this motherboard http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014Z7JHAM?keywords=b150m-d3h&qid=1454042554&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3
I tried to just boot off the old nanobsd stick I was using, but it got stuck at booting at /boot/kernel/kernel
So I tried a fresh install wiping the usb, and putting it on again and the same thing occurs.Even before it gets to that, the text appears very slowly on the boot menu.
I tried using the live cd on a cd rom drive, everything worked fine.
I tried disabling the serial port in the bios, no change.
I am using a sandisk 4gb usb stick with the 4gb nanobsd install.EDIT: After 20 or so minutes, it booted fine and everything seems to be working at full speed. However, every reboot is very slow. Any ideas?

Did you try adjusting the settings in System/Advanced Serial Comms to make it boot up quicker?

Serial terminal is already off, and I tried setting the primary console to vga, still no difference.

i think i have the same issue. Got my build today (Skylake, also g4400), and its just slow. Not like the bug reported and pictured in early 2015 on the 2.2 upgrade with the char by char slow, but just slow as if it was a old pentium 2 or something.

+1 here with Skylake cpu + Mobo.
I'm seeing slowness during install.
Bootup also super slow.Is it necessary to change certain setting to make it faster in UEFI BIOS ?

On one hand this could really be a solution.
I am using a sandisk 4gb usb stick with the 4gb nanobsd install.
Perhaps it is not read only and full (4 GB of 4 GB) and the pfSense try to write something on?

In another thread where this would be also likes as described here, the solution was
to disable the CD/DVD drive and install then once more again from a legacy USB 2.0
port without any problems. Perhaps there is also in the BIOS a USB mixed mode enabled
if there will be native and legacy USB 2.0 ports please try them out instead of the newer
USB 3.0 ports. -

I have the same problem and I too have a Skylake CPU (G4400)…
It takes an eternity (20 minutes must be about right...) to boot from a USB memory stick...
Once everything is installed to the SSD everything appears to be normal...

I have the same issue when I try to install pfSense 2.3.3 from a USB key using the G4400 CPU (full product name "Intel Pentium G4400 2-Core 3,30GHz 3MB").
I'm using a Supermicro X11SSH-LN4F motherboard, currently with BIOS 1.0b.Does anybody know a solution for this issue?
PS: After the installation the system boots in a normal, fast way (install target are two SSDs in a gmirror)

Same problem. Took ages (around 3 to 6 mins I think) to boot the installer from a USB stick, but boots OK from the internal SATA flash drive after installing.

pfsense uses freebsd v10 while you need at least v11 to support skylake and ryzen processors. probably it has something to do with the chipset that skylake uses.
so not unless pfsense move to latest freebsd, you should not be using any current gen processors, it is recommended to stay 2 generations behind when using pfsense.

Anyone find a workaround for this other than waiting 20 mins? I don't think it has to do with how new Skylake is, my laptop is newer than my router hardware (both Intel i series) an it boots the USB in seconds.
I'm trying to boot the latest stable installer image at the time of this post.

Having the same problem. Trying to install from USB on a Shuttle DS68U with a Skylake family CPU (Celeron 3855U). Tried several USB stick but it's always the same… SLOW.
