So logged in to my pfSense dashboard recently and it seems recently just about every package has an update all the sudden. Is it ok to update all these? Is this part of a new release coming down the pike soon?

      Thanks

      2.6.0-RELEASE

Well, the first big warning to you is that if your pfSense version is actually still 2.4.4_p2 as it shows in your signature, DO NOT update any packages as you will break them all most likely. The packages are all recompiled each time pfSense is updated.

What is the actual version of your pfSense firewall?

Okay. You are seeing the number of updates because of a simple change to the copyright text (the year was updated to "2021" from "2020"). Nothing material in those updates in terms of functionality.

Now over on the 2.5-DEVEL snapshots, there have been some material updates due to the import of the latest quarterly update from FreeBSD ports. So if you were running a 2.5 box and updated, you very well might see some functionality change in some packages. As one example, over in 2.5-DEVEL the Snort package update will give you the newest 2.1.17 binary while over in 2.4.5_p1-RELEASE the Snort binary is still 2.1.16.1. I'm looking at getting the update over to RELEASE in the near future.
