Azure pfsense NVA odd log entry Kernel.Critical
-
Azure NVA - version = 2.4.4-RELEASE-p3 (amd64)
Was alerted to an odd log message that we would like to understand:
Process = kernel
NO PID listed
Message = soft.Compute/identity?api-version=2015-05-01-previewSyslog forwarding shows Priority as: Kernel.Critical
No known impact and no other log entries either side that appear to relate.
After the usual google search it is possible that the last part of the message is a reference to an Azure API version.
We currently forward to a remote syslog and then ingest local syslog text files into an Azure Log Analytics workspace using a custom log and then setup alerts for key words.
Given these are separate components - not sure why we see a kernel message that appears to mention an Azure API - unless there is something amiss with the NVM on the hypervisor level...Anyone with any ideas?
Was thinking we should upgrade to 2.4.5_1 ?
EDIT:
I found previous occurrences - it appears this recent entry cut off the full log message. Appears to relate to Azure resource metadata protocol:
kernel: INFO Protocol endpoint not found: MetadataProtocol, [000008] 404 - GET: http://169.254.169.254/Microsoft.Compute/identity?api-version=2015-05-01-previewI would chalk this up to an Azure environment log error with no impact. If it continues I would log with Microsoft Azure support.
