I'm running an SG-1100 w/2.4.5-p1. Dashboard widget does not show 2.5.0 available. Under the Upgrade menu, my branch is Latest stable version (2.4.x) and the only other option is Previous stable version (2.4.4 - Deprecated). I only have the OpenVPN Client Export and pfBlocker-NG packages installed. System-Patches package has been removed. System log shows:

pid 49199 (pkg-static), jid 0, uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)

so that's likely my issue but I'm not sure how to fix a broken package manager. I upgraded System-Patches a little while ago but I don't remember exactly when. Perhaps I didn't notice that 2.5.0 had come out, I upgraded System-Patches and now pkg is broken.

"a little while ago" as in possibly after 2.5 came out on Feb 17? If so then yeah it could be broken.

I expect the solution is to open a ticket at go.netgate.com and they will send you firmware to reinstall. Just do so without packages and add those later after setting the version to 2.4.5p1.

See also this and this redmine bug reports.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

According to Netgate, the problem is a bug in pkg that can only be fixed by a full reinstall using a 21.02 image followed by a config restore. That will be something that waits for the weekend at the earliest.

@bmeeks This thread sounds like the issue you ran into in the (unrelated to this) Redmine update you just posted.

Yeah, sounds similar. I'm only working with my SG-1100 to help Netgate sort out a weird bug with Snort and Suricata on ARM hardware (specifically the SG-3100, but it may apply to the SG-1100 as well, so that's what I'm going to test with).
