Seeking Netgate original software to install an M.2 SATA card on an XG-7100 1U
-
I tried to register at https://go.netgate.com/support/login but it doesn't work, there's an error and even the reset-password link doesn't work (it never sends any email to the registered email address).
Anyway, the reason I was trying to create a support account is because I was
hoping Netgate could send me the software to be able to reinstall the system
after I put an M.2 SATA card into my Netgate XG-7100 1U following these pages:http://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/xg-7100-1u/reinstall-pfsense.html
http://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/xg-7100-1u/m-2-sata-installation.html
I'm on this version at the moment:

Depending on where you are in the world, it's possible their spam protection software improperly flagged your IP address or something. You are doing the correct thing to open a ticket via that Netgate site. Since it is not working for you, perhaps calling the phone number listed there might help if you explain to the person who answers the phone your issue with signing up/logging in to the support site.
Getting an install image for their appliances is free.

@Derelict or @chrismacmahon to the rescue again?
OP - are you using protonmail by chance? Seems to come up frequently here as problematic.
-
@gabacho4 Yes, I have been trying to use a protonmail.com address. It seemed to work OK for registering in the forum, perhaps it doesn't work for their support system. Thanks for your suggestion, I'll try using a yahoo address.
-
@gabacho4 Thanks, I was able to register on the Netgate support site using a yahoo email address.
-
@lerriuqs outstanding! Netgate ought to just put a disclaimer that protonmail won't work. I've seen some people get pretty frustrated as a result. In fact, the last time I pinged Derelict and Chris, it was for the very same reason. The great thing about Netgate is that they are extremely responsive so, one way or the other, you'd have been helped out. Best of luck!

@gabacho4 Indeed, thanks! Even though I created the ticket in the middle of the night, Netgate Support immediately closed it and sent me the download link. Yay!
Smoothest installation ever.
I like the design of the mini-USB approach to making a serial port, I hadn't noticed that until now. I'd been expecting to have to hunt around for my serial-to-USB connector. Instead I just used a super-long active USB extension cable to connect to a laptop running Fedora 33: just plug in the USB then access the console using:
sudo modprobe cp210x
sudo screen -U /dev/ttyUSB0 115200
(To quit from the GNU screen, press "Ctrl A" followed by ""). -
@lerriuqs Ha! It’s even easier on windows. Plug it in, set the com port in putty, and console is yours. Very glad your experience with netgate has been the same as I’ve experienced on multiple occasions. Happy bit pushing!
