SFP+ network card HW compatibility list
-
hello,
iam searching for pfsense hardware compatibility list. Particularly for a 4port SFP+ (Supermicro AOC-STG-I4S).anyone help me on this pls..TIA
-
@ozlecz - I have been using a Chelsio T540-SO-CR (4 port SFP+) card with pfSense for some time and it has worked out quite well. With the latest release (2.5.0) I am seeing some ping spikes which may/may not be related to the card, I'm not fully sure. However, at this point it appears to be just an annoyance more than anything else.

If you're looking to go the Intel route, the Intel 700 series cards should be supported as well:
I also looked and believe that the Supermicro card you mentioned is supported by the
bxe
driver in FreeBSD/pfSense:Hope this helps.

sir does this mean i need to load the driver at boot time manualy?
-
@ozlecz - I don't have direct experience with Broadcom based cards, but I believe pfSense should just pick up the proper driver at boot time and the card will then be ready for you to configure (this has been the case with the Intel and Chelsio cards I've used). Based on the driver documentation, there has been support for these cards since FreeBSD 9.0 so I would expect everything to work.
Hope this helps.

@tman222 its not a broadcom. its aa Intel XL710-AM1 controller sir
-
@ozlecz - my mistake, I was looking at the wrong Supermicro card the whole time, the
Supermicro AOC-STG-B4S
and not theSupermicro AOC-STG-I4S
. The XL710 based card should work fine as well and pfSense should just pick up theixl
driver for the card during boot (there has been support since FreeBSD 10.1). -
@tman222 thanks for this info sir
