I have FIOS(50/50) at my home in NJ with a HDHomerun Prime box on the network. I also have Blue Ridge Cable(60/2) at a vacation house in PA. I want the PA house to connect to my NJ house(thinking its on the local network in NJ) so I can stream my FIOS channels to PA. Would I need a PFSense router at both locations or just the PA house? Is there a step-by-step on how to configure the router? I already loaded the PFSense onto the hard drive and turned the pc into a router…LAN and WAN ports set up but not connected to any network yet)....just not sure where to go now. :-[

Probably two pfSense units and OpenVPN between them.

You sure it needs to look like it's on the same LAN or can it be routed?

DO NOT set a source address/port in a port forward or firewall rule unless you KNOW you need it!

          Well…Im not really sure...still learning.
The HDhomerun box is in NJ. I have Nexus players there(NJ) that I use for streaming the tv channels from it to different rooms in the house. They will only find the hdhomerun tuners if they are on the LAN.
I want to install the nexus players in the PA house and do the same....not really sure if its possible :-\

It's probably using either IGMP or mDNS/bonjour for discovery. Never personally had to do it but there's an IGMP proxy built in and the Avahi package for mDNS/bonjour. A site-to-site OpenVPN sounds like what I would try.

If all else fails there is a way to put OpenVPN in tap mode and bridge it. It is generally viewed as a less-stable, undesirable way to do things. Making the application work across subnets is preferred.

I'm just curious, did OP (or anybody else) get this to work? Thanks,
              Avery
