@jknott The pfSense book is essentially silent on additional packages, of which FRR/Quagga is/was. Note no snort/squid/etc either.

My point was that I looked there for info, where it said to use quagga. It did not say to use ffr.

It's hard to make a correction submission, when you don't know the provided info is wrong.

Sure they will catch up and fix outdated documentation..

Wow, I had forgotten how slow my Cisco router was at doing stuff in the console, especially compared with my Qotom & pfsense. It's a 2600 series.

It was old when I got it. I bought it used a few years ago, when I was working on my CCNA. It was good enough for that. However, the interfaces are only 100 Mb, though it also has a T1 interface and a couple of serial ports.

It's been about 12 years since the last time I set up a router on a T1 and that was through a separate CSU. I have never had occasion to do one with a serial port connection, however I'm ready, should I get a frame relay connection in here.

BTW, I've been around long enough to remember X.25.

I did a lot of X.25 from clients to our IBM Mainframe (3745 NCP running NPSI) .
First clients with Micom PADS , using async emulation Packet/370 , later with IBM PS/2 with X.25 CoProcessor cards.
I learned always to check windows size , when the connection couldn't come up. Usually the X.25 provider saying they used a WS of 3 , and then they configured 4 - Back then My Toshiba laptop with the Feline network analyzer card in it , was invaluable.

Then lots of X.25 was replaced by ISDN , and later by FR.

Ps: SDLC & X.25 is 99% equal in the link layer (just different Mnemonics for the same command) , ISTR X.25 had one cmmandd that SDLC didn't have.

I did a lot of SNA/VTAM & SDLC at the same time

I used to work for a telecom that provided Telenet service in Canada. We had PADs that converted plain ASCII via dial up modem to X.25, which then connected to Pr1me computers, which the Telenet network ran on.

I also used to work at IBM Canada, providing 3rd level OS/2 support. I never worked with CM, but I did support Personal Communications, which provided 3270, 5250 and telnet terminal emulation over IP & SNA. Back in those days I actually memorized my 5 SNA addresses, 1 for my own computer and 4 for testing in my work. I also had 5 IP addresses. The one for my computer 9.29.146.147.
