I just tried to add/install via the GUI the package Notes to a pfS 2.4.5-p1 on a VM VirtualBox, but it only returns

Please wait while the update system initializes

I created a checkpoint then upgraded through the GUI to 2.5.0 (works fine) and tried to install Notes and it installs like a charm, back on 2.4.5-p1 after using checkpoint, but still it returns; "Please wait.." like before

      What am i missing?

      Packages: pfBlockerNG devel-beta (beta tester) - Avahi - Notes - Ntopng - PIMD/udpbroadcastrelay - Service Watchdog - System Patches

The packages repository pointer, by default, will always point to packages compiled for the most current "released" version of pfSense. It will NOT point to packages compiled for the version you actually have installed (unless that is most current version). This is a quirk of pfSense that hopefully will get addressed, but for now it has tripped up dozens and dozens of folks who post here with the same issue as you have.

Here is the fix. Go to SYSTEM > UPDATE and then the Update Settings tab. Change the version drop-down selector to be "Previous stable version (2.4.5 deprecated)" and save that change. Now your packages repo will be pointing to the 2.4.5_p1 packages repo.

Note that packages in the 2.4.5 branch will NOT be updated, though. So if you are looking for a newer version of a package, it will only be found in the "current release" branch. All the 2.4.5 packages are now frozen at whatever version they were prior to 2.5.0 being released.

@bmeeks Kudos and although dozens have experienced this 👍 that you took the time explaining it.
