netgate sg1100 falls over when WAN experiences issues
-
Once a week or so, my Verizon connection experiences 'issues' (working with them on this side of things).
A few things happen at the same time:
- all my devices lose internet
- pfsense becomes unresponsive. I cannot ssh in or log in through the web UI.
- If I plug my laptop directly into the Verizon ONT (dangerous, no firewall), I cannot get an WAN IP. There's no internet.
To 'fix' this, I power cycle the Verizon equipment. Sometimes, I have to power cycle the netgate SG1100.
I mostly blame Verizon at this point for the 'outage' because of #3. However - I should still be able to access pfsense, right?
Why would the WAN having issues affect my ability to connect to pfsense from the LAN?
EDIT: I tried disconnecting the WAN cable when things were operating normally to see if the issue could be reproduced that way and pfsense remained up.

You should still be able to log in on LAN. There are parts of the GUI that can seem slow if it is waiting for DNS lookups to time out however.
What do the pfSense logs say? You might plug a console cable in and see what that says.

@teamits Are there certain logs I should look for that might have more useful information than others?

I'd start with Status/System Logs/System/General, Gateways, and Routing.
