Shuttle DH110 slow network issues
-
Hello. I had pfsense set up on Protectli Vault 4 machine running a Celeron J3160. I have gigabit fiber service which relies on PPPoE authentication. So, I was dealing with the issue of only one core being able to be utilized, which results in slower speeds. With some tunables I found, I was able to get the speed to around 500-600mbps. I deemed this acceptable for the time considering I was coming from 100mb cable.
I finally decided to upgrade to a i5 machine to see if I could get the full bandwidth out of the fiber. So I got a Shuttle DH110 with an i5 6600T chip. Set up pfsense, and restored my setting from my the old box. The only thing I had to manually add was the PPPoE login info.
With the new Shuttle box, I'm getting terrible throughput. It varies wildly from device to device. One of my laptops got 900mbps for a minute, but hasn't since. The rest of my hardwired devices are topping out at around 150mbps.
One thing I noticed when I did the initial pfsense setup was that one of the NICs showed as "AHCI enclosure management bridge", which seemed odd. The NIC was able to be set up without errors though.
Here's how the interfaces show up:
- WAN: igb0 Intel PRO/1000 PCI-Express Network Driver
- LAN: em0 AHCI enclosure management bridge
I'm wondering if something about the NICs/drivers isn't right or perhaps restoring the settings from the other box is causing an issue.
I've read a few posts out there from people who say that they are running pfsense in a DH110 with no issues and say it's a good box for pfsense.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I managed to get it working and posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/mc8x8a/poor_speeds_in_shuttle_dh110/

BIOS update? Interesting.
