I have an SG-1100 and I have been trying to upgrade to 2.5 but it is stuck at 2.4.5x
I checked update settings and it only offers anything higher with the nightly builds.
Netgate at twitter said that because it is official negate hardware I should have access to 21.02-p1 but after some back and forth they said to start a topic to figure out why.

Anyone have an idea as to why I can upgrade?

Yes, it should be offering you 21.02.1 as the latest stable version. You should not have to set dev snapshots. It's not upating the repo info.

At the command line run pkg-static -d update let us know what error it shows.

@stephenw10 Hello Steve, thanks for the prompt reply. I set it to that to see if it would "Push" it to the new release but not.

This is what I got when I ssh to itScreenshot from 2021-03-31 09-12-00.png

I see an error but do not quite understand it

Ah, OK. Looks like you are hitting a known issue with the hardware auth device in 2.4.5.

Try this. Shutdown the SG-1100 and remove the power completely for 10s. Then boot back up and retest.
The full power cycle is required to reset the auth device. That is fixed in 21.02.

            Steve

@stephenw10 I had this exact same problem on my SG-1100. I was told by Netgate support that it was due to a bug in pkg and the only solution was to download the 2.5 image and reflash the unit with the new image.

Ok, It took me a while to take care of a few things and yes, unplugging it did the trick and now I see 21.02_1 as the next available update. I will do it in a bit after I remove all apps and reboot it for good measure.

                  Thanks.

                  Will report in a bit

@kom That may have been some time ago before the nature of the bug was understood.

A full power-cycle often happen at re-install so fixes it but may not since you can do it without removing power.

@stephenw10 As I wrote before it did not allow me to update due to an error. Just because I tried about a half hour later and with my hearth beating extra fast, specially after covid, I was so glad to see the light stop blinking and I left a terminal pining google.com which finally got a response back.

This is working now and I will explore a little bit the interface and new features.

                        Thanks to everyone who helped.

                        Sincerely,

                        Carlos

@stephenw10 It was about two weeks ago. I'm not complaining. It got me where I wanted to be albeit via an alternate route.

@kom You have a ticket number? I shall make sure everyone is aware of that issue.

Hopefully it won't matter very soon when 21.02.2 is available with numerous fixes.

                            Steve

Ah, well looks like it was me responding on that ticket so no excuses! 🙄

However the symptoms there were slightly different. The output at the command line confirms the seg fault.

In retrospect you probably could have power cycled that to recover instead of reinstalling so I apologise.

@stephenw10 No worries, it's all good now and I wanted a copy of the install image anyway.
