NICs not detected after HDD install
-
hello,
i apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere.
i have a problem with an Asus 1u server. when i boot from the LiveCD, pfSense detects the PCI-Express Intel NICs. After I 99 Install to IDE hard drive, pfSense doesnt detect them. any ideas?
Also, is pfSense compatible with Serial-ATA hard drives? i've tried installing on serial-ata hard drives & the 99 install completes just fine. But after rebooting, pfSense or FreeBSd gets got in a loop, continuously scrolling some messages on screen. i can't tell what messages because it goes by too fast.
thanks

For the NIC issue, try picking the multi-processor kernel when installing.
SATA drives should be OK. Check here for common problems:

thanks for info. we definitely try it & let you know what happens.

The processor has only 1 core.

You can still run the SMP kernel on a single processor system. I'm suggesting it because there are certain hardware combinations that don't run properly on the UP kernel…

UPDATE: I managed to install pfSense & have it detect the integrated NICs.
Install pfSense 1.3 Alpha Alpha with SMP Kernel as suggested by dotdash.
However, the install did not detect the Intel PCI-e NICs. This could be related to the riser card.
thanks for your assistance dotdash!

They are supported but this issue is caused by FreeBSD 6, only happen on some chipset/motheboards combination it is fixed on 6.3 and better.
