Hi - Ok, I'll be honest, I have used McAfee for several years and Norton before that. I have also used different freeware periodically (I don't remember which ones). I've also run Malwarebytes alongside McAfee, which probably isn't optimal. The MB forums say just use MB + Windows defender. I am tired of the McAfee 'bloat' and MB is starting to get bad, also, prompting me to start a new search.

I'm not a security expert (obviously) nor am I a networking expert, but I still enjoy running pfSense on my SG-3100 (except during my recent attempt to upgrade to v22) 😬 Similarly, I enjoy messing around with software options on my PC.

It's difficult to find useful research or articles on AV software, most are biased or sponsored, so I thought I might see what people here use. Thanks!

I use either Kaspersky or Microsoft's own antivirus depending on the station and its use.

Thanks - I just finished removing McAfee after I posted and just saw your comment. I found some good information here and have my Windows Defender fully activated now. The PC already feels lighter. 😀

Still a lot to read and look forward to additional comments.

@newberger I'm using avast. At first I used it only because it is free, but I sticked with it for years now. The free version is pretty basic and doesn't get in may way.

i don't run Microsoft products but for work.

when i did run 10 at home, it was the included AV. plus Malwarebytes pro/ paid. and basic common sense kept me malware free
