Qotom mini pc BIOS optimization for pfSense install
-
Hi all,
I posted this question in the Reddit sub forum but I am doing so here too to see if anyone has any suggestions since I don’t have any experience with this.
I have an 8 port Qotom mini PC Q878GE with an Intel 8th gen I7- 8550U Kaby Lake quad core CPU (1.8-4.0 GHz) that I would like to install pfSense. Was wondering if there are any BIOS settings that I would need to tweak before such install for optimal performance. BIOS is American Megatrends. Would appreciate any recommendations or even online links and articles that can assist me to do this.
Thank you!

I have a Qotom with 4 Ethernet ports. The only change I made was how it behaves when power is restored after a failure. Since I leave mine up 24/7 and have UPS, I configured it to always turn on. The other options were turn off and previous state.

@jknott thank you!

Hi,
I have also a Qotom based enclosure, I set the BIOS to dual VGA output (HDMI and serial, with serial priority), hyperthreading off and the USB to 2.0 (to avoid problems with USB-Sticks).

I'm always setting my ACPI power state on to "Power on"
That way i'm sure my Fwall is starting after an AC (mains) failureEdit:
You will like to try that by "pulling the AC or 12v plug" ....
If the disk don't survive (UFS) , you i''l also know why ZFS is preferred .../Bingo
