      ASUS M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 motherboard

      Trying to install:

      pfSense-CE-memstick-2.5.1RELEASE-amd64.img on USB

Will boot to menu and continue to boot (white text on black background) for about 10 seconds and then screen goes black . . and stays black. Computer becomes totally unresponsive and have to power off with PSU switch.

I don't think there is anything wrong with hardware. It will boot any other operating system installer USB to its desktop.

I just tried to install FreeBSD-13.0-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img from USB and it did the same thing.

Could the problem be with the GPU?

I just noticed in the motherboard manual that it has a ATI Radeon 3000.

Can someone please help me with this?

@rita-g said in cannot install 2.5.1:

            FreeBSD-13.0

pfSense is using FreeBSD 12.2-STABLE but if FreeBSD can't boot up then it's not a pfSense thing. Can you catch or film the monitor before it goes black? Did you look through the troubleshooting doc? (update BIOS, disable PnP, etc.)

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.
