SG-3100 Boot Issue
-
Hi - My SG-3100 went offline today and on rebooting, I am receiving an error regarding the partition table.
sdhci_transfer_data: Transfer data timeout MMC: block number 0x11 exceeds max (0x4) ** No partition table - mmc 0 ** ## Starting application at 0x00200000 ...
And it hangs there
I tried to reinstall, and that failed also. Several errors, ending with error mounting pfSense partition. aborting
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

That looks like your "disk" has failed. The "disk" in the SG-3100 is actually eMMC storage.
You could add a M.2.SATA drive as explained here: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-3100/m-2-sata-installation.html, and then reinstall pfSense to that device.
Or if your unit is still under warranty, you could contact Netgate support for assistance here: https://go.netgate.com/support/home.

Thanks - I will go with the M.2 and reinstall.
What typically causes the eMMC to fail? It's only 3 years old.

I don't think there is a common cause. It's just the luck of the draw, as it were. Weird that yours just sort of died spontaneously while in active duty. While you never expect failures, it's not as surprising to see them manifest after a more traumatic event like a power failure or power off/on cycle. But just keeling over while on active duty is a bit unusual.

That's what I thought, also. Thanks for the reply!
