no more beeps

pfSense 2.5.1-RELEASE (amd64) on M4A87TD
Hi,
I recently changed motherboard and noticed I don’t get the beeps (when booted and when shutting down) that I did with last motherboard (DH67BL).
Can someone please tell me how to get my beeps back? -
There's a setting in System/Advanced/Notifications to disable it.
Does the new board have a speaker? -

Hi Steve,System/Advanced/Notifications/Sounds in GUI is enabled.
“Does the new board have a speaker?”
Yes, I bought a little mobo mini speaker on ebay and plugged it into the 2 ‘speaker’ pins on the system panel connector, but still get no beeps. -

thanks for replies,"Did you verify the polarity on the wires when you connected the speaker? Those speakers are polarized, usually there is a + sign marked on the speaker."
Yes, that was the 1st thing I checked before coming to forum.

The polarity shouldn't make any difference there. More likely that board doesn't have a PC speaker in the traditional sense or it's not at the expected location.
I have occosionally looked into this over the years but never found a definitive cause or solution.Steve

Steve, this is typically the type device called a speaker that you hook up to a motherboard and yes they are polarized. These really are just beepers/buzzers but they are sold as speakers.

They are still driven with an AC signal, you can change the tone of the beep. I'd be amased it didn't work when connected the other way. But anyway I don't believe that is the issue here, more that the device is not presented to the OS in a way that FreeBSD/pfSense can use as /dev/speaker.
