Port fowarding same port on 2 machines in separate LAN
-
Hey,
I have a question above port forwarding the same port to 2 machines. I know this is not possible over the same LAN but would it be possible if I create 2 LAN interfaces like one 10.0.0.... and one 192.168.0.... would I then be able to hook one machine to each LAN port and be able to have the same open port for each machine???
Also would there be a rule to add to access back into the 10.0.0... interface IE to access a server on that interface from the 192.168.0... interface?
I would try it myself but my PFsense router is not set up after having a blackout and the modem got destroyed I have not had the time to setup the bridge and reconnect the PF sense router on the new modem. So thought I would ask before I waste my time trying

@unconoob Still not possible.

Yeah I thought that may be the case.
What about a VPN with port forwarding on the VPN its self or would that still be limited to the WAN only accepting the one port or would the traffic route differently in the WAN not seeing the port behind the VPN??
I am not going to get another WAN connection just to play a game I know with a web server you can just change the port to say 8080 and would resolve the issue but with a game with locked ports and multiple people playing at once its an issue I cannot see a way around lol. One just ends up with open nat the other strict or moderate

@unconoob Maybe make a new post under gaming and name these games? Those I play never have these kind of problems.

@unconoob
That could be a work around for your usecase, as you are "bypassing" the firewall - or better: you are behind the firewall in a private network. From the VPN Client Network you will need to implement routing / rules to the service you want to access - while using the standard port of the server. Depending on your configuration you wouldn't even need NATing from the VPN Client Network.Just for understanding:
Are you hosting a service itself which should be reacheable from the internet or are you trying to reach a server with different clients? So that the server is thingking you are accessing it from an different maschine?In this case also VPN could be a possible solution, as the server will not check for the launch port but for the ip of your WAN connection.

Thanks its not a huge issue just I used to always have open NAT on PC now wife plays the same game on PS4 and its moderate. But when she is not on goes back to open. I should start the game first to get priority haha -
Yeah accessing the game server. Game is call of duty if it matters. I have tried my VPN and see they have a port forwarding option available at a cost. I have ran the game through the VPN without port forwarding and have got open NAT before for some reason but only once and the rest of the time its moderate. I have not set VPN up on the router yet only on desktop so maybe that would be a better way to bypass as its routed in the router not desktop. I have set up VPN for 1 machine before in PFsense its self but that was a while ago haha.
Its not a huge issue and dont have the time to put into it ATM why I thought I would get some feedback first then spend a day trying to realise that its not possible

@unconoob I would post under gaming with the name of the game right in the title. But lets say, there is no fix. You could do the vpn thingy, but for that you have to have a server somewhere, "normal" vpn providers don't let you choose ports that way, if any. And also pfSense 2.5.1 has a port forwarding problem in this regard...

@bob-dig
Thanks yeah might try in there some one may have found a way around it. Wish by now there would be a easy way around it haha thought it wouldnt really matter the game or port as the issue would be the same but as with games without a dedicated server your not able to change the port even then if you want to game on the same server the same issue is there. -
I just looked in the games forum seems this is raised alot. Might read through the threads in there as seems some have it working on the Xbox thread so may work with mine. The game is modern warfare and the game I play is cold war but all the ports are the same so should be the same outcome. Now to find time and dust off my router lol
