Dual WAN with Spectrum / Google Fiber - Route Roku TV app
-
Hello,
I was hoping someone else has already figured this out and has an solution before I dive in:
I have a Netgate 3100 with Google Fiber and Spectrum Internet configured with Dual WAN / Failover mode with Google fiber as the primary, and Spectrum internet as the secondary.
Spectrum has a TV / Cable watching app for Rokus and Apple TVs that allows watching cable over the Spectrum internet connection. So I'd like to route any of its (the apps) traffic through the backup / WAN2 link, so as to enable that app to work normally. I'd rather not configure all Roku traffic to go through Spectrum, as we still watch Netflix / Hulu and Google fiber is faster.
Has anyone already worked out routing / firewall rules that will allow Spectrum's TV app to always route through a secondary WAN connection? A quick search here didn't return anything.
Thanks for any help.

@smithgcovert You could run a packet capture filtered on your TV device to see what it's talking to and on which ports when you run your Spectrum app. From there you would create rules to direct traffic from that device to those IPs/ports out the WAN2 gateway. The trick is separating traffic the device normally generates versus the traffic specifically from the Spectrum app so you might have to play around with it.
