I've tried to upgrade from 2.2.6 -> 2.3 with zero success with my CARP'd pfSense setup.  Stand alone systems seem to work just fine.  When I try to upgrade the backup pfSense I'm getting the following:

"Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufsid/5716641c74fd37e6 [rw]…"

      Any thoughts?

Thanks ahead of time for your comments

Seeing that on the VGA? Sounds like what would happen when the serial console's enabled as primary console, it switches to serial-only at that point in that case until it's booted all the way to the console menu.

          Thank you for posting!

Yes VGA.  I've tried many ways to get this to work.

Went through the firmware upgrade menu.
did a fresh build, which has worked on two slightly different hardware setups and was able to modify the ip before logging in and testing.
Did a fresh build on identical hardware that was having the issue thinking there was a hardware issue.  Once the console menu appears, change the ip, log in and upload the config.  Same result.

I let it sit there for an hour or two with no change, force power down the server and when I boot it backup, I get a
'WARNING: / was not properly dismounted'
          and
'WARNING: /: mount pending error: blocks #### files ##

          Thanks again for your comments!

Checking in again on this.  Still having the issue even with 2.3.2.
"Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufsid/{numbers/letters} [rw]…

            It's just sitting there.

One thing that could be of value; The config appears to work if I import it one section at a time.  Instead of backup "all", actually selecting and backing up each section of the config individually, resetting to default config, upgrading then restoring each config one at a time works.

"Then why not do it that way?"  I have twelve firewalls to do and plenty of other things on my todo list (like everyone else).

Ok, rebooted the machine and put it into safe mode and verbose.

This time I'm getting the WARNING:/ like before

              Along with.  'Start_init: trying /sbin/init

              Help please.
