Create a pfsense firewall

Create a pfsense firewall. Using an old lenovo i had sitting around. I have an intel nic on it and lan side i have a realtek nic. I an interested if that is all I have what is preferred in and out? Realtek for lan and intel for wan? or vice versa?

Normally, you should reserve the Realtek for your worst enemy, or at least, keep it in a drawer, or recycle it.
It also just might work.
Best will be : add a dual Intel NIC to your system, and forget about the Realtek all together.The rest is pretty straight forward.

Typically your LAN will actually be 1GbE capable and your WAN would be less. Often a lot less.
So I was use the Realtek on the WAN where it probably won't be passing as much traffic.
Of course the LAN will be passing the same speed unless you add VLANs etc but that would also be a reason to use the Intel NIC there.Steve
